Lioness

| The lioness sits atop a kopje, surveying her domain in the cool morning light. Instead of east Africa, this setting is Zoo Atlanta. I was spending the day gathering reference materials on exotic animals. I was the first person admitted to the zoo that day. Shortly after I began sketching her, a group of school children came running around the corner, squealing with delight. She immediately turned her gaze and I witnessed a change in her state from calm rest to intense scrutiny. In nature, you must be ready for any UNEXPECTED ENCOUNTER. |
